Period 2 After warmups and announcements, morning college prep students were given the essay question for tomorrow's exam over Oliver Twist. We spent about 25 minutes brainstorming the content of the essay before heading to the computer lab to play the 11 review games (one for each chapter we read) online. Homework: Write the essay tonight if at possible, and continue reviewing the material using the online Quia games. Periods 3 and 7 Honors students began with warmups, then went over this week's new vocabulary. We then did a photo lineup before going over the second creative writing assignment. Homework: Write about a page for tonight's assignment. Period 6 Afternoon college prep students began with warmups before making new flash cards for Unit 4-1 vocabulary. Period 2 Morning college prep students began by turning in warmups, going over grammar, reciting their poem, and submitting their journals for the weekly check. We then finished Chapter 11 of Oliver Twist. Homework: Finish the new grammar assignment. Period 6 Afternoon college prep students began by turning in warmups, going over grammar, reciting their poem, and submitting their journals for the weekly check. We then took the exam over Oliver Twist. Homework: none Period 7 Honors students turned in their warmups, did a new grammar exercise, and had a journal check before beginning a supershort creative writing unit using vintage photographs. If you want to see your photo again as you begin writing a description, click on Vintage Photo Project under the Honors tab. Homework: Finish the new grammar worksheet and write your descriptions. Most important: don't forget to memorize your poem!! Period 4 Mythology students spent the first half of the class going through the packet on Hindu goddesses. The latter portion was spent in the computer lab working on the first 10 Hindi consonants using this excellent Web site. Homework: none Period 3 did not meet today. Period 3 Morning honors students started off with announcements, warmups, and grammar. We then returned our Oliver Twist books (what a relief!) and began a three-day creative writing unit using vintage photographs. Homework: Complete the Day 1 writing assignment; you can find your photo under the Honors tab if you click the Vintage Photo Project link. Also, wrap up three pages (front and back) in your journal and print your X2 reports. Don't forget to finish off the grammar assignment, too. Period 4 Mythology students began the "cute" book on Hindu mythology: Sanjay Patel's The Little Book of Hindu Deities. We began working on filling out the Hindu deities chart today as well. Homework: none Period 7 Afternoon honors students began with warmups, then went straight into exam mode. Students completed their second exam on Oliver Twist. Homework: Finish yesterday's grammar for tomorrow. Don't forget to print out your X2 report and to wrap up three pages (front and back) in your journal. Period 6 College Prep students began with warmups, grammar, and poetry practice before getting down to the serious business of review for tomorrow's Oliver Twist exam. We discussed the essay question in detail, then headed to the library to play review games (also found on this Web site). Homework: Finish your grammar homework, memorize the poem, complete two pages (front and back) in your journal, and if at all possible, write the test essay tonight. Period 2 did not meet today. Periods 2 and 6 College prep students began with warmups, then practiced the poem. We started a new grammar unit (parallelism) and began Chapter 11 of Oliver Twist. Homework: Finish your grammar worksheet, work on the poem (due Friday), and write in your journals (also due Friday). Period 3 Morning honors students had a stressful class today as they labored over the Oliver Twist exam. Homework: Finish yesterday's grammar worksheet. Period 4 Mythology students finished the packet we started yesterday. Homework: none Period 7 Afternoon honors students began with warmups and journaling before going over Monday's vocab exam. Period 2 Morning college prep students did the warmups, then practiced "The Road Not Taken;" we are doing two more lines this week. Afterward we went over yesterday's vocabulary exam and finished Chapters 9 and 10 of Oliver Twist. The last 10 minutes of class were spent journaling. Homework: Finish the journal entry. Period 3 Honors students began class by doing warmups and going over the vocabulary exam from yesterday. We then spent 15 minutes journaling and started a new grammar unit on parallelism. The rest of class was spent preparing for the essay on tomorrow's exam. The question is: We read Oliver Twist in an attempt to shed more light on conditions during the Industrial Revolution. What did we learn about this time period through the book? Homework: You may choose to write your essay at home and turn it in tomorrow. Study for the test! Period 4 Mythology students spent the time before lunch finishing the travel documentary on India. After lunch, we began the packet entitled "Land of a Thousand Gods: India." Homework: none Period 6 Afternoon college prep students did their warmups and poem practice before taking the Units 1-3 vocabulary exam. Periods 2, 3, and 7 Students today had a shortened period as a result of the Advisory period planned for the end of the day. We used the time we were allotted to take the vocabulary exam over all the words covered so far this year (three units in College Prep, six units in Honors). Leftover time was spent organizing minibooks and/or journaling. Homework: none -- and the poem recitation for Honors students has been postponed until next Monday. Periods 2, 3, 6, and 7 All freshmen classes began with turning in the warmup and submitting journals for a weekly check. College Prep students recited the first two stanzas of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" as well. The remainder of class was spent playing vocab bingo as a final review for Monday's exam. Homework: Study vocab! Period 4 Mythology students began Hindu mythology today by watching two animated shorts about Rama and Krishna. We then practiced our poems and went through the vocabulary slideshow one last time. After that came a vocab quiz over Unit 3-2 and more readings in Oliver Twist.
