About Ms. Young
I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Louisiana State University with a BA in English, so it's no surprise I love books. This year—my sixth at Fairhaven—I'm teaching two sections of college prep freshman English, two sections of honors freshman English, and Introduction to World Mythology (an English elective). In my freshman classes, we'll be reading some of the best books and poetry ever written: Romeo and Juliet, Anne Frank's Diary, Oliver Twist, Of Mice and Men, and Animal Farm, to name a few. In addition, we'll be working hard on nonfiction and grammar.
Outside of class, I run the FHS Poetry Club, which meets every Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 2:45, and I also coach the Poetry Out Loud students. This year I'm also serving on FHS's Handbook, Attendance, and Steering Committees. When I have a little free time, I like to spend it baking, organizing, wandering the Web, watching foreign films, embroidering, and dabbling in languages. I'm interested in Latin, Greek, Russian, Esperanto, and American Sign Language.
